A prayer for all
I pray.
I pray.
I pray.
What am I expected to say?
Let there be no more suffering,
no more tears shed,
shelter the homeless,
every child fed.
I pray.
I pray.
I pray.
What do I want to say?
Let justice be done,
give the powerless more,
right every wrong
even the score.
I pray.
I pray.
I pray.
What will I really say?
With the price that one pays
for these few breaths of life
let them count
let them ease another’s strife
make me giving and selfless
forgiving and kind
Give me just one chance
to ease just one mind.
And maybe one person will do this for me.
A chain of such gifts could set the world free.
